Head & Neck Cancer

Head and neck cancers, often squamous cell carcinomas, start in mucosal surfaces of the mouth, throat, and voice box. They also include less common cancers of salivary glands and sinuses.

What Are Head And Neck Cancer?

Head and neck cancers primarily begin as squamous cell carcinomas in the mucosal linings of the mouth, throat, and voice box. They encompass various cancers located in the oral cavity, including the lips, tongue, gums, and floor of the mouth, as well as in the throat, voice box, paranasal sinuses, nasal cavity, and salivary glands. While squamous cell carcinomas are the most common, cancers in the salivary glands, sinuses, or muscles or nerves in the head and neck occur less frequently. These cancers are distinct from those affecting the brain, eye, esophagus, thyroid gland, and skin of the head and neck.
